Classes

Spring - April/May/early June

Edible Weeds - Dandelion, Nettle, Lamb's Quarters, Chickweed and more...

Meet some of the most nutritious green beings in...your yard! Wild herbs (aka weeds) available at this time of year have specific cleansing and tonic actions on the body. Just what our bodies need to get rid of that winter sluggishness. We'll identify and harvest some wild herbs, talk about their specific nutritional properties and try some easy, delicious dishes. I'll have some recipes on hand to take home. This class can run in light rain or shine. Limited to 5 participants. Fee $20 (includes a light, weedy lunch).

 

Herbal Nutrition Basics

Yes, winter has just ended! Now is the time you should be creating a solid base of health to deal with next winters colds and flus. Spring is an excellent time to do this. We'll go over over wild spring edibles, nourishing herbal infusions and local veggies that will especially bolster your immune system and general health. Reading list included. Rain or shine. $10

 

High Summer - Late June/July/August

Identifying Wild Medicinal and Edible Plants

We'll take a weed walk and identify common medicinal, edible and maybe some poisonous plants that you're likely to find in your garden, yard or neighborhood. We'll discuss uses and lore. Rain or shine. $10

 

Making an Herbal Honey

Herbal honeys are delicious, easy to make and a great way to take herbal medicines or just enjoy the flavor of herbs. We'll discuss the various actions of common herbs and you'll make an herbal honey to take home. This is a sunny day class only. $15

 

Making an Herbal Vinegar

Herbs are full of minerals from deep in the soil. Perserving an herb in vinegar unlocks all that mineral goodness into a form that is easily assimilated by the body. We'll meet some herbs and discuss their mineral properties. You'll make a vinegar and take it home. Rain or shine. $15

 

Herbal Basics

What is this wise women herbal medicine all about? We'll go over what herbs to use when and how; herb actions, preparation, doseage, etc. We'll go over some basic herbal medicine preparation and I'll have samples, too. Rain or shine. $10

 

 

Autumn - Late August/September/October

Gifts from the Garden

Learn how to make herbal cordials, herbal jams, herbal honeys and other gifts from the garden. Recipes and instructions included. $15

 

Have a Healthier Winter with Herbs

We'll discuss herbs that help ease the common cold and flu; their actions, preparation and doseage. Herbs we'll go over include elderberry, echinacea, hyssop and others. $15
